I couldn't believe it....

Lately, I have been getting lots of political calls so when I see a weird out of state number I usually don't pick up. Thus when a call from Buford, Ga came in I'm not sure why I answered, but
to my surprise and extreme pleasure it was Erik.
Someone gave them a cell phone that works on the other side of the world? Not sure what that is about but I'm thankful for the 2 min. call.
They are fine they have come to the capital city because Michele's parents are coming for a visit.
I am excited for them all, and glad to know that I will get more frequent e-mails for the next 3 weeks.

Keeping in Touch

I love that my kids have access to e-mail, but that access is very limited. I started a family blog in May and they have not been able to access it as of yet.
I decided that I needed to come up with another way to communicate with the kids besides e-mail so I send regular individual letters monthly. I try and keep these letters about me and what I am doing that month. If it is a month with a holiday then I will tell them how I'm celebrating. Last November I wrote a letter telling them why I was thankful for each one of them. I always let them know how much I miss them, and love them. I usually include a small gift. I always have my eye open for pencils, little books, stickers, jewlery,or toys that will fit in a small envelope.
I have found that it is hard for them to write to me, so to solve that problem I send them fill in the blank letters that they can return to me. I get so excited when I get them back.

Handle with Accuracy

I love God's Word. It is a treasure that God has given to us so that we can know Him and His ways. It is truly a blessing for me to have a son that has the same love for the Word of God that I do.

Today there are about 200 million people who do not have the Bible in their own language. Wycliffe's vision is to see the Bible accessible to all people in the language they understand best. Erik and Michele have learned the language of the people they live with, and continue to learn and grow in it. Erik works with Bible translation and Michele works with teaching the people literacy. The process they have committed too will take many years. They are overseas for a block of 4 years, and they then come for furlough in the U.S. for one year, and back to Vanuatu for 4 more years.

They have finished the book of Mark and are now working on the book of Acts. The translation process is a long one with lots of checks and balances.

They start with a first draft. They have a translation team made up of people from the village. They write the first draft together with Erik.
The next step is called an "advisor check". This translation check is done phrase by phrase to make sure nothing is left out.
Step three is called the "village check". This is when the text gets read in the community and comprehensions questions are asked and answered.
The next step in the process involves Michele preparing the "back translation". This is a literal English rendering of Nafe translation.
The final step is for the back translation to be sent to a consultant who will write all his comments in preparation for his coming. When he comes they will again go over his comments and make changes if necessary.

I think that this is a true rendering of the verse in 2 Timothy2:15:"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth."

I Am Back....

Sorry, I have been on trip, but I am back and ready to update and work on this blog.
I received an E-mail from my kids today and they loved the packet I sent from Mt. Rushmore.
Just thought I would let you know it was a success.
