Yassur volcano on Tanna Island
The republic of Vanuatu is in the South Pacific. Vanuatu's closest neighbors are New Caledonia in the South, Fiji Islands to the east, Solomon Islands to the North, and Australia to the West. Vanuatu includes 13 larger islands with 70 smaller islands . These were originally called the New Hebrides, and they were administered jointly by Britain and France until they were given their independence in the 1980's.
Most of the islands are mountainous and volcanic in origin with 3 still active volcano's.
Weather is tropical--warm and humid with a rainy season.
