Furlough : A time of rest
A time to relax
A time to recoup from living and serving cross culturally
A time to reconnect with family
A time to reconnect with friends
A time to reconnect with supporters
A time to meet new supporters
A time to rest
This will be my third furlough as a POM.
My first furlough with the kids I really thought it was all about family, but I learned that it is not that simple.
It can be a hard time especially for the returning missionary family.
They are uprooted from their home, their work, and their friends.
If they are not living with family they have to find temporary housing and transportation, schools, and possible work or service.
They may find themselves having to travel across country and meet with supporters.
I've learned to be flexible, available, and prayerful.
I try to enjoy every minute and be thankful for the time we do have together.
I've stocked my kitchen with all their favorites.
I've saved and stored books and toys for months.
I'm ready and so excited...
It won't be long now.

This is something that not everyone can understand..I do. It is a growing, learning and teaching experience for all of us. It is so important that we are flexable and don't have unrealistic expectations. By the end furlough my daughter is more than ready to return to Haiti. She misses her Haiti kids so much.
Enjoy your time.
